The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has requested FAMPO add two recently funded roadway projects into the region’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP contains a list of projects slated to receive federal funding in the next four years. Although funding for the projects has been approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB), all transportation projects receiving federal funding or are of regional significance must be included in the TIP document.
The process of adding these projects to the TIP document includes a 15-day public comment period followed by FAMPO approval.
The 15-day public comment period will run from November 16, 2021, through December 1, 2021.
During the comment period, members of the public are encouraged to review the project details (conveyed below) and send comments to firstname.lastname@example.org or (540) 642-1564. Members of the public may also directly address the Technical Advisory Committee on this matter at its December 6, 2021 meeting which will be held at 9:30 am at 406 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg VA, 22401. To attend that meeting virtually, refer to the directions on the committee webpage.
The projects proposed for addition to the TIP include:
1. I-95 Exit 126 STARS Study Improvements: Improvements to I-95 Exit 126 in Spotsylvania County and improvements to areas along Route 1 near that exit. The project will reconstruct parts of the exit to improve safety and traffic flow and add additional travel lanes on Route 1 near the exit. This is a state and federally funded project which is moving ahead of schedule and needs to be included in the TIP document in order to initiate the preliminary engineering phase. The project details can be viewed here. The project’s identification number is UPC 119112.
2. Rt. 208 Operational and Multimodal Improvements: Multimodal (roadway and pedestrian) improvements along Route 208, Courthouse Road, in Spotsylvania County from Hood Drive to Woodland Drive. The project will add additional turn lanes on northbound Hood Drive to reduce congestion; add a raised median between north and sound travel lanes to improve safety; and add an additional sidewalk, a crosswalk, and pedestrian crossing equipment. This is a state and federally funded project which is moving ahead of schedule and needs to be included in the TIP document in order to initiate the preliminary engineering phase. The project details can be viewed here. The project’s identification number is UPC 119108.
