| Study Description: |
| The Fredericksburg Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) is undertaking a study of Lafayette Boulevard between downtown Fredericksburg and US 1. While this study will be primarily focused on modifications to the corridor from a transportation perspective, it will consider the well-documented relationship between land use and transportation. |
| |
| The ultimate goal of this project is to identify specific context-sensitive recommendations for Lafayette Boulevard. A part of this goal, the recommendations should demonstrate the way in which smart growth principles can be successfully applied in the George Washington Region. |
| |
| As northern Spotsylvania County and portions of the City of Fredericksburg continue to experience growth and change, Lafayette Boulevard will be affected. |
| |
| The Lafayette Boulevard Corridor Study will consider the relationship between transportation, land use, and design. In addition, the plan will highlight/showcase how land use and transportation can be linked and have outcomes that are beneficial to the community as a whole. |
| |
|
| Finally, this Corridor Study will identify recommendations to improve conditions on Lafayette Boulevard for all modes of transportation. The team will consider the following items: |
- Modifications to the existing roadway layout to accommodate more efficient vehicular operations
- Expansions of/modifications to existing transit service by adding bus stops and altering routes
- Provision of bicycle accommodations such as lanes, paths, or other facilities
- Improving pedestrian infrastructure such as sidewalks, signals, crosswalks, among others to create a safer, more walkable Lafayette Boulevard
- Enhancement of safety for all transportation users
- Improvement of the connection between land use and transportation
- Development of streetscape characteristics along the corridor
- Improvement to parking conditions
|
| |
Public involvement will be central to the planning process. The study team encourages input from the public. Public meetings will be held at the onset of the project for information gathering purposes and then again during the corridor plan development and review stage. Public participation will ensure that the recommended plan achieves the project’s vision, goals, and objectives. |
